introverts anonymous

Hi everyone, my name is Katie and I [sob] am and introvert. Hi Katie. So maybe the situation isn't that dramatic. And I am comfortable with my personality type. For reals. But it wasn't until I read this brilliant post called How to Rock the Party Scene for Introverts that I really began to understand that so much of my social behavior was because of my personality type.
"Contrary to popular belief, introverts are not necessarily shy in the traditional sense. Introverts just re-charge differently than extroverts. Introverts need time & space alone to create, think & explore their own minds in order to feel full & energized. Extroverts, on the other hand, seek out outside experiences–namely, other people–to recharge their batteries. They like to talk & engage with others in order to feel more alive."
Those first two sentences completely explain me. Yeah, people are great, but sometimes they are just honestly and truly exhausting. I used to come home from school and blow off important homework to take a nap because people made me so tired. Whenever I do something with my (extended) family and we all have our big gatherings, I often wander off my myself, usually to the bathroom or kitchen, so that I can be left alone to recharge for a few minutes. It's just draining to be around people. I recommend reading the post regardless of your personality type, because I think it is pretty enlightening. Even if you are an extrovert who thrives on the energy of other people, maybe you'll learn a little something about your peers.
